Welcome...

My name is Doug Blatt. As you read through this web site, please feel free to get to know me as a person and as a candidate. Please feel free to contact me to discuss how I might be able to serve you in the U.S. House of Representatives.

I am an optimist. I believe in the ideals that our founding fathers set forth in the Declaration of Independence, the US Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. Few nations on Earth, if any, have the kind of diversity we have and are able to deal with the issues of such diversity with such civility as we have. Recently, that civility has been tarnished a bit but I am optimistic that civility will prevail. Our nation was founded on inclusiveness and as such individuals enjoy many rights. We have the responsibility to maintain those rights for all by standing up to protect those whose rights have been violated.

I believe in the free market economy, but even a free market has to have rules and regulations to protect individuals and organizations from those that would do them harm. We have all seen in recent years what happens when rules and regulations are eliminated or go unenforced. The free market crumbles without a sound foundation to hold it up.

I believe in the American mindset. Americans are adventurous, entrepreneurial, and inventive. We are constantly working on ways to discover, improve, or invent things to make our lives easier and better. In the 18th Century we built a nation…in the 19th Century it was Manifest Destiny to stretch the nation from sea to shining sea…in the 20th Century our destiny was to become a world leader and to race to the moon…what will be our destiny in the 21st Century?

It is all of these things that make us the greatest nation on Earth. There are over 300 million of us with over 300 million different opinions on how our nation should be. We argue and debate, and sometimes we fight, but in the end we always seem to come together to resolve our differences and do the right thing. We may stray once in a while, but we always come back to the correct path. Sometimes the task at hand seems downright impossible, but we always find our way when we come together to solve the issues. It is our diversity and the foundation set forth in our Constitution, combined with our American spirit and work ethic that make us such a great nation.

It is time we get beyond our partisan bickering and on with the job of making our government work for the people and not against them. With the right support system in place, our people have shown they can accomplish anything…including the impossible.
